About Heywood Men Shed
To provide programs that help men to be active managers of their own health by establishing the Men's Shed as a pivot for men's health activities in the community by linking the Men's Shed members with health services in their community where they and live.
Making people welcome a place to talk, have a coffee, participate in activities. Helping people develop a new interest hobbies and drawing them out and rejoicing in community.
Sharing our skills and knowledge with others. Being prepared to accept people where they are at.
Our shed
In January 2006 several men started talking about having a place where men could meet and talk together.
The men met at several locations in Heywood for some time without establishing a set place to meet.
Several sites were suggested but rejected due to space constraints, cost of renovation and suitability.
Then Heywood Rural Health offered their servies to help.
- 2010: During 2010 the Heywood men's Talk Group became an incorporated Not For Profit Organization.
- 2011: Applications was made to the Heywood Board for permission to put a shed on Heywood Rural Health property. After interviewing 3 contactors, one was selected and the contractor then work started in late 2010. The concrete floor was laid and in 2011 the erection of the shed started.
- 2011: Their were only 3 members of the shed that were hard working to get the shed fitted out with benches:
- Then in July 2011. They started the insulation began for the walls.
- The establishment of the Heywood Men's Shed filled the gap that existed in Heywood area for the Health and wellbeing of rural men.
